APPLICATION OF
BUILDING SERVICE
This project is related to the students’ studio design project in semester 2 which relates to a domestic size building (i.e. a retreat house, etc.) Students are expected to demonstrate their understanding of building services by proposing and designing the most appropriate systems for the building which include:
i) electrical supply system
ii) cold water and hot water supply system
iii) sewerage and sanitary system
iv) drainage system
Therefore students are required to produce appropriate drawings and diagrams which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, texts, etc. to describe the planning and installation of all the building services. Additionally, students may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relate to the proposed systems into their presentation boards.
CASE STUDY
The objectives of this assignment are as follows:
1. To introduce students to the basic principles, process and equipment of various building services systems through real life project (experiential learning).
2. To expose students to the integration of various building services systems in a building.
3. To allow students to demonstrate their understanding of building services systems 4. To develop students’ understanding and familiarity on the drawing conventions and standards for different building services systems
Throughout this project, I had learnt a basic knowledge of how the system works, which include electrical system, sewerage system, hot and cod water system and drainage system. Besides the symbol of each system and suitable location of them. UBBL law is also in consideration before locating the each gadget in each systems.
I really appreciated the chance of being able to travel to the services room for collecting data for each system. The process if fascinating and is a great experience. We are able to witness the working system which supporting the shopping mall to function well. Thank you to Jaya Shoping Center for guiding us throughout the process and thank you to Mr ritzal and Mr Siva for giving us the task. We realy learnt a lot on how the system works by witness them working in live.
